The Soul House rates

The Soul House is a beautiful grade two listed country house that has been owned and loved by the same family for over 300 years.   It’s set in 80 acres with truly breath-taking, quintessentially English views of the countryside.   


This special place has a relaxed, lived in feel, it’s not a formal venue.   The décor is mostly just as it was in the 1920’s, we use the term “faded art deco glory” it’s a unique venue and we’re using the income from holding events to give the house some love.

  • Compost loo block, (for groups of 50-70, see below)

  • A water point (drinking water)

  • A washing up point

  • The Fire Pit with benches and picnic tables

  • Communal BBQs

  • Reclaimed wooden tables & benches

  • One on-site warden (for groups of up to 50-70)

The Soul House exclusive hire includes use of selected areas of the actual house, the lawns, wooded copse, camping areas, central fire pit and picnic area and surrounding land which is perfect for activities like kite flying or holistic practises like Tai Chi or healing etc.  We only ever exclusively hire The Soul House for the entire weekend, and we’re very flexible so you and your guests can relax into your stay, in the knowledge that you won’t be rushed out!  If you’d like a different configuration or day arrangement, please chat it through with us and as always, we’ll see what we can do!


The Soul House Facilities: Most of the ground floor is available, including the main entrance with pebbledash driveway and parking for 6 cars, the lobby area (which is where we can run a bar if required), the lovely Drawing Room and Dining Room and the Ballroom.  This year we are pleased to be able to offer four bedrooms in the house (please see accommodation below), and by arrangement, the swimmimg pool and terrace.


The Drawing Room and Dining Room are perfect for arranging buffet style food or perhaps for a sit down meeting of say 30 people, or maybe a chillout room or somewhere to entertain the kids, the options are endless and we’re happy to arrange the furniture accordingly.  The Drawing Room features french doors that open onto the West Lawn and the Dining Room features french doors that open onto the large East Lawn.


The Ballroom with its original parquet flooring and dimmable chandeliers is perfect for playing music until late at night.  We have a sound system you can hire and there is no curfew!  There is a unisex toilet by the Ballroom entrance.


The large East Lawn looks wonderful with a couple of large yurts or dressed marquee which can be used for a number of uses.  With options for catering (as below) we can provide a breath-taking setting for a banquet, or maybe something more earthy like a free range hog roast or catered barbeque around the fire pit.


Just to the east of the East Lawn is a wooded area where the Glamping Bell Tents are situated and further on, a large fire pit, with stunning views of the valley opposite, it’s a wonderful space to hang out all night under the clear Sussex skies. There is also a collection of communal barbeques with some utensils included.  


There is a compost loo block in the wooded area and water and a wash-up point is provided (we provide environmentally friendly washing up liquid) along with picnic furniture and benches made from reclaimed wood and pallets.


The on-site toilet facilities in The Soul House cater for gatherings of 50 to 70 people (depending on the type and length of event), however for larger groups we require that you hire in extra toilets, and you may like to hire in shower facilities as per the price indications below.

Bell Tent Accommodation: This year we are upgrading to 6m Luxury Bell Tents, each can sleep 8 people on luxury single airbeds or we can arrange 4 doubles or a combination of.  We can accommodate 32 guests and more by arrangement.



We use heavy duty canvas Bell Tents for extra room, height and comfort.  As standard, they are fitted out with air mattresses, with a lining sheet and a medium tog sleeping bag or duvet.  Also included are reclaimed wooden low tables, and incense burner with incense, carpet flooring, lanterns, a water container and a cool box.  We have three small battery powered sound systems to plug in your iPod or MP3 player, or play cd's (subject to availability).



Tipi accommodation: We provide beautiful locally-crafted Tipis as accommodation. They are fitted with an inner lining, groundsheet, coconut floor matt, and rugs and lanterns. The tipis sleep up to 10 people and offer a very different camping experience!



Yurt accommodation: Additionally we offer lovely locally-crafted Yurts in range of sizes, with the most popular being the 14 foot Yurt that sleeps 5-6 adults. These elegant structures have a very warm and welcoming feel and offer fantastic protection from inclement weather.



Local B&Bs:  There are a few local B&Bs and a motel in the village, which is a lovely 15 minute walk away through fields.

We work with local suppliers to provide a vast range of structures.   From wind-resistant Clear Span marquees to exotic and beautiful Yurts.


Marquees can come with a simple groundsheet and carpet flooring, hardwood flooring (strongly recommended), beautiful inner lining and chandeliers and lighting. We have given some cost indications for budgeting purposes.


For extra space you can link up two yurts and have an area for eating and an area for dancing, it’s a magical arrangement. 


We can also provide lighting and sound systems.   Our music policy is fairly relaxed and there is a full explanation below... sound levels are always something to get absolutely clear from the outset so please do read our policy if you wish to have music at your gathering.


There are many other marquees and structures available so please contact us to discuss your requirements if you have something special in mind.  


catering and drinks

We work with number of local partners to provide lovely fresh locally sourced food.  There are many options from a local free—range hog roast, which is always an event to be watched as well as eaten!  


Or maybe something formal like a sit down meal or maybe an alternative eating idea like a self-catering barbeque on the array of barbeques that are included around the Fire Pit.  We can arrange for local meat and vegetables and vegetarian options to be delivered to The Soul Camp. 


If you would like us to provide quotations for catering, please provide as much information as possible.  Please also consider the type of offering you would like, would you prefer a buffet?  Would you like tables and chairs or benches, would you like the tables dressed?  Naturally, all of these parameters affect the cost.  For budgeting purposes we have given some pricing indications here.


We are also happy for you to arrange your own food or caterers, there is a fridge in the guest kitchen and we are happy to receive orders from on line ordering.

We can also provide The Soul Bar: a fully-managed bar with a range of excellent local ales, ciders and fine local English wines as well as soft drinks at reasonable prices:  we do have as minimum bar spend so please enquire.   


Alternatively for a corkage fee of £300 you are free to order drinks on-line.  We can provide crew to manage the bar to avoid wastage and drinks being spilt if required.

Other essential things to consider...

We have a set of clear House Rules but these areas are worth pointing out right at the start so everyone has a great time!


Music Policy & noise: The Soul House has the advantage that music can be played in the ballroom until very late. 


We know it’s important to let people have fun however we would like to point out that screaming and shouting, and drunken disrespectful behaviour is one of our deal-breakers as detailed in our T&Cs. 


For this reason we require guests to appoint a Nominated Person to be responsible for ensuring music levels are maintained at an agreed level, and that guests are adhering to our House Rules.


For more clarification please feel free to call and chat things through...  sound levels are always something to get ‘very’ clear from the outset to avoid any stress at the gathering.


Securing Your Date:  We are receiving a lot of interest so if you would like to proceed we do advise a prompt response.  The next stage would be to create a full description of your event here and agree the logistics and parameters, once that is agreed, upon receipt of 50% deposit, your date is secure.
