THE CROCODILE OF OLD KANG POW, written by Darren Berry of the rock band Razorlight, is an experimental punk opera set within the foetid boroughs of 18th century Paris, a meeting of high art and low morals, with an emasculated Marquis de Sade at the helm as a languid Lothario with a lethal libido. But what if the Marquis de Sade can’t get it hard? Mary Antoinette will be most displeased. The Marquis will be ostracized. Worse still, he will lose his head on the guillotine! What can be done? Is there any hope? The Marquis is in despair. All seems lost until he hears of the fertility god, The Crocodile of Old Kang Pow, and embarks on a heady journey into the tropics.
